Gunz Lozano’s lyric and vocal style produce an audible silhouette of the South L.A. streets spun and woven with a broad bed of music and global appeal. The Lynwood, CA born writer and sound engineer has fired up a new shade of hip hop, casting more light on the influence of Hispanic culture on the West Coast music movement.
Son of a renown Mariachi, Gunz was taught the value of music early in his childhood. Acoustic guitar lessons from dad, singing in choir, and watching his father and uncles bring music into every aspect of life set the pace for Gunz’ musical trajectory. Yet, the transplant from Mexico to Los Angeles led the family to Lynwood, CA in the 80s. The harsh realities of losing friends to jail and young deaths in the gang concentrated area put these stories atop the list of influences that would shape his musical style.
His neighborhood, a border street where one side was Lynwood and the other side was Compton, placed the young artist dead center in a social experiment allowing for a blending of Hispanic and African-American musical styles. Add Hollywood glitz and the global influence of Los Angeles' melting pot of world citizens and you have the perfect setting for Gunz' broad style to emerge.
GUNZ RECORDED HIS FIRST STUDIO RECORD IN 2008, WITH PARTNER SONNY BLUE AS THE DOLLAR SIGN GANG (DSG). PROPELLED BY THE BROWN MONSTER MUSIC GROUP (BMMG) (A GUERRILLA MARKETING MOVEMENT CREATED BY SONNY BLUE, GUNZ AND A FEW OTHER UNDERGROUND ARTISTS) MARKETING OF THAT RECORD HAD A FORCE LIKENED TO ANY MAJOR LABEL EFFORT SELLING 10,000 UNITS OF THE DUOS FIRST RECORD IN MONTHS.
An evolving landscape and a wider understanding of his artistic vision led to the eventual release of his solo projects - Gunz Lozano and Fast Life, writing collaborations with artists like Chris Constantine and Compton Menace, and live performances where he has shared the stage with names like RJ, Juicy J and Chris Brown.
He also flexes his artistic and creative drive in other directions. As co-owner of BUMS clothing (http://www.ShopBums.com), Gunz and his business partners create the opportunity for fans to connect with him more personally. The brand pushes a solid moto based on the concept that a bum spends all of their time doing one thing, which in this case is to be driven to succeed.
He is also a SAG eligible actor with a resume that includes roles in TV series like Scandal, Murder In The First; Music Videos with Tinashe ft. Asap Rocky (PRETEND), Calvin Harris (BLAME), and Rae Sremmurd ft. Future (DRINK ON US) to name a few.
A bona fide “triple threat,” Gunz is positioned for a monster 2016. He is always open to collaborations that push him to grow musically, hence the surprises he has in store for fans starting with the release of his new mixtape project, FAST LIFE 2, set to hit the world stage in Spring of 2016 and hosted as a collaboration with Young California's DJ Carisma.
